Six months since launching, the Alberta Municipal Solar Program (AMSP) is in full swing with several completed projects, a number of projects under construction, and many more in the planning phase. The AMSP provides financial rebates to Alberta municipalities who install solar photovoltaics (PV) on municipal facilities or land and complete public engagement to educate others on their project. Participating in the AMSP is helping municipalities lower their energy bills, generate renewable energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and demonstrate leadership on climate change.
Funding is still available for new applications and is distributed on a first come first serve basis. Details on the AMSP including eligibility, rebate rates, size limits, and more can be found at http://mccac.ca/programs/AMSP.
The Town of Valleyview is nearing completion of a 38 kW rooftop solar PV project on two affordable housing units. With the help of the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre's AMSP funding, this project is on it's way to becoming one of the first projects completed through the program. The images below show the in-progress installation of the racking and solar modules on the rooftop of each unit.
