Clean Energy Improvement Program

Funding Programs

Receive support to develop Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing solutions for residential and commercial property owners in your municipality.

Why participate

Accessing  affordable  financing is one of the largest barriers  that property owners face when making a decision to invest in energy  efficiency and renewable energy upgrades. Individuals may not have the money to pay the costs up front or are worried about selling their property before getting their investment back.

The Clean Energy Improvement Program is a Property Assessed Clean Energy program that makes it easier for property owners to overcome these barriers.

A new way to finance energy-efficient upgrades

The Clean Energy Improvement Program provides residential and commercial property owners with access to competitive, long-term financing to cover up to 100% of their project costs.

Property owners will be able to enjoy the advantages of energy efficiency upgrades or renewable energy installations immediately and pay for them over time through an assessment added to their property tax bill (similar to a local improvement charge).

The Municipal Climate Change Action Centre is the province-wide administrator for the program and is the single point of access from project inception to completion for municipalities, participants and contractors.

Within Alberta, An Act to Enable Clean Energy Improvements was passed on June 6, 2018. Soon after, the government consulted with stakeholder groups to develop the guiding Clean Energy Improvements Regulation, which came into force on January 1, 2019.

Expected launch: Spring 2021. Be the first to know when this program has launched. Register for updates related to the program.
