City of Beaumont: Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre – Lighting Retrofit

OVERVIEW

 As part of the Action Centre’s Recreation Energy Conservation Program, the City of Beaumont completed an LED lighting retrofit throughout the Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre. 

The Ken Nicol Rec Centre has two ice rinks with a lobby, dressing rooms, mechanical room, washrooms, storage, concession, kitchen and banquet room. It also has a curling rink leased space with a lobby, dressing rooms, storage, mechanical rooms; and a child care centre.

The project was commissioned in June 2022.

APPROACH

The retrofit project included the replacement of 455 T8s and CFLs fixtures with an equivalent number of LED low bays, troffer, and controls. The new LED lamps will provide higher lumen levels at a much lower wattage, thereby reducing the electricity consumption of lighting equipment under the system boundary.

RESULTS

The lighting retrofit resulted in a reduction of 101 tCO₂/year and an annual energy cost saving of $19,541.60 thus decreasing electricity costs. There is a 75% GHG reduction from the existing system and an 8% reduction facility-wide from the baseline.
