The Town has created this Climate Action Plan to guide Okotoks on the course to this desired future. It has been designed to meet the Town of Okotoks’ target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, while also making the community more resilient and a better place to live. It establishes a detailed pathway to 2030 with guidance to 2050, while highlighting strategies that will help move the community forward for many years to come.
Scope
Eight priority areas – Buildings; Transportation and Land Use; Waste; Energy Supply; Ecosystems and Local Food; Health, Wellness, and Preparedness; Water Conservation and Management; Mainstreaming and Corporate Leadership.
Risks
Existing Climate Resilience Express Action Plan (2018) identified 17 risks and 6 opportunities, Climate Risk and Resilience Assessment and associated recommendations report (2019)

Community Engagement
Engagement conducted by Ethelo (carbon emission simulation exercise) & survey, targeted engagement with youth;
Previous plans which this plan builds on (Environmental Master Plan, 2018) developed with extensive community consultation;
Education & Engagement identified as a Key Action;
Town will do a refresh of plan in 2025 and 2030 at which point community will be engaged.

Tracking Progress section includes targets, indicators from existing planning documents, and potential new indicators by priority area.
