Municipalities Planning for Climate Change in Alberta

Municipalities across Alberta have taken the first step to act on climate change by creating a plan. These plans act as guiding principles and set goals that they want to achieve for their community. The list below includes communities that are preparing for the impacts of climate change and protect the community, infrastructure, and services. These accelerated efforts will lead to lowering the creation and release of greenhouse gas emissions and increased reliance upon renewable energy for heating and fuelling purposes.

As the climate warms, and rising greenhouse gas emissions continue to severely impact cities, towns, and villages across Alberta, more communities need to plan for their future and start taking action now.

Learn about the many ways municipalities across Alberta are addressing the impacts of climate change and reducing its effects through concrete policy and planning actions.
