Identifies priority risks to Leduc’s corporate services, resulting from weather and climate hazards. The severity of risk is judged by the extent to which it affects public health and safety, economy, the environment, and the provision of infrastructure and services.

6 Moderate Risk Events – Ice, Snow, and Hail Storms (5 actions); Tornados and Wind Storms (6 actions); Heat waves (2 actions); Lightning storms (1 action); Extreme Precipitation and Flooding (4 actions); Water scarcity (2 actions)

20 actions associated with each risk, includes estimated cost and timeframe.

Includes actions that involve minimal investment, higher level investment, and further study to increase understanding of risks.

Social Equity

Actions need to be equitable—decisions should take account of which vulnerable groups in Leduc benefit from an action, as well as who bears the costs of that action.

Community Engagement

One-day climate risk assessment workshop with City staff.

Implementation

Outlines support for implementation of existing actions.

1) Updated and tested Municipal Emergency Plan and Emergency Preparedness Guide 2) Water demand management programs and a Water Conservation, Efficiency and Productivity Plan 3) An Environment Plan with recommendations for water conservation and stormwater management 4) Strategic planning activities which support the climate resiliency and sustainability of natural systems.
