OVERVIEW

As part of the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities program the County of St. Paul purchased, and received funding to cover 30% of the associated cost, of two new electric Greenworks Lawn Mowers. The 42” Greenworks Crossover and the 60” Greenworks ZTR will help reduce the County’s annual GHG emissions and significantly reduce disruptive noise.

APPROACH

The County added the two electric mowers to their fleet in the 2022 mowing season, and looks forward to the significantly reduced fuel costs, maintenance costs, and disruptive noise compared to the previous internal combustion engine mowers.

RESULTS

The two electric Greenworks mowers will emit approximately a combined 80% less GHG emissions compared to the 2014 Kubota and 1997 Exmark mowers they are replacing. Annually the electric mowers will reduce the County of St. Paul’s GHG emissions by roughly 8.37 t/CO2e per year. Finally, the County is looking forward to saving in excess of $2,000 annually, due to the decreased fuel and maintenance costs of the electric mowers.

“The County of St. Paul is pleased to be a recipient of the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s Electric Vehicles for Municipalities (EVM) program. The funding was allocated towards the purchase of two Greenworks Electric Zero Turn Mowers that are being used at our regional facilities and County-owned parks. We estimate that the County will save in excess of $2,000 annually in fuel costs with the larger mower purchased and help reach the County’s GHG reduction goals. The County of St. Paul is looking forward to further adopting energy efficient solutions.”
