As part of the MCCAC’s Recreation Energy Conservation (REC) program, the City of Medicine Hat completed a large scale lighting retrofit of the Family Leisure Centre updating more than 50 of the facility’s existing lighting fixtures to a low-wattage LED equivalent. 50 LED highbay fixtures and 3 LED wall packs were installed in the Cenovus Arena to replace the original lighting system over the arena and the stands. The retrofit is expected to cut energy use and related emissions by over half.

The project was completed in August 2020.

“Players, parents and even our staff have noticed the difference the LED lighting makes; plays happening on the ice will no longer get lost in the shadows.”

Stephane Rainville, Superintendent, Recreation Facility Operations
