Overview

As part of the MCCAC’s Electric Vehicle Charging Program (EVCP), Mackenzie County installed electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the following facilities for public use. These are the first EV charging stations to be installed in the County.

  • One Flo 100 kW level 3 station with two plugs at Northern Lights Recreation Centre
  • One Flo 100 kW level 3 station with two plugs at Fort Vermilion Community Cultural Complex

The project was completed in February 2023 and funded through the MCCAC’s Electric Vehicle Charging Program with funding provided by the Government of Alberta and Natural Resources Canada.

Approach

The charging stations will be the first step in creating alternative energy options for County residents, promoting environmentally friendly solutions to transportation pollution, while creating an opportunity to increase potential tourism to the Region for those that operate electric vehicles. The EV charger project would reinforce the community’s commitment to renewables and greenhouse gas reductions.

Mackenzie County. is a specialized municipality in northernAlberta. Located in the northwest corner of the province https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Division_No._17,_Alberta, along the Mackenzie Highway, it is the largest County in Canada.

More EV chargers are needed in surrounding communities along key transportation corridors to establish a reliable network across Northern Alberta. It’s important to us that residents and visitors have access to EV chargers, and we are keen to do our part to build out the EV charging infrastructure in our region.
