In 2022, the city of Leduc completed the construction of their new solar carport PV installation, a 24.3 kW solar PV system. The system comprises 54 solar modules and is conservatively estimated to generate 20,000 kWh per year. The system allows the city to produce renewable energy, lower its carbon footprint, and lead by example in the community. The system received a rebate through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s Alberta Municipal Solar Program for $18,225.00.
The project was operational in 2022 and was constructed by Proactive Planet Solutions & Terralta for $86,727.00. The anticipated lifetime electricity cost savings: $50,000 over the solar array’s minimum 25-year lifespan.
The system will offset about 11.4 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually, the equivalent of removing two passenger internal combustion engine vehicles driven for a year off the road.
The opening of the solar carport and electric vehicle charging station provides Leduc residents and visitors another incentive to visit, shop, and work in downtown Leduc while continuing to support our local economy, this facility was made possible with the support from the provincial government, and it strengthens our commitment to finding ways to reduce our carbon footprint and using green energy wherever possible.City of Leduc Mayor Bob Young
