OVERVIEW

As part of the Action Centre’s Recreation Energy Conservation Program, Strathcona County completed an LED lighting retrofit throughout the Salto Gym and Recreation Administration Building.

With an area of 27,488 ft2, the facility is home to the Recreation Parks and Culture administration as well as consists of a Gymnastics gym which is occupied by Salto gymnastics. The building is owned and operated by Strathcona County with a Private Gymnastics club occupying the gym for gymnastics programs.

The project was commissioned in March 2022.

APPROACH

The lighting retrofit project included the replacement of 30 metal halide fixtures with 30 LED high and low bay fixtures. The new LED lamps will provide higher lumen levels at a much lower wattage, thereby reducing the electricity consumption of lighting equipment under the system boundary.

RESULTS

The lighting retrofit resulted in a reduction of 24 tCO2/year and an annual energy cost saving of $5,746.99/year thus decreasing electricity costs. There is a 65% GHG reduction from the existing system and a 9% reduction facility-wide from the baseline.
