As part of the MCCAC’s Alberta Municipal Solar Program (AMSP), Sturgeon County installed a 115 kW solar PV system at the Fire and Protective Services Building. The project was completed in 2020.

“We are proud to announce that Sturgeon County has installed its first solar array at its Protective Services Headquarters building with the help of $86,649 in grant funding from the Municipal Climate Change Action Center (MCCAC). This project is the first of its kind in the area, we anticipate that the new infrastructure will produce 113,300 kWh per year and significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.”

Alanna Hnatiw, Sturgeon County Mayor

“We anticipate that as a result of this investment, GHG emissions will be reduced by 64.5 tonnes per year. Over the next 25 years that adds up to 1,612.5 tonnes of savings.”

Scott MacDougall, Sturgeon County Chief Operating Officer
