OVERVIEW

As part of the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities program the Town of Strathmore purchased, and received a $50,000.00 rebate to help cover the cost of a new $167,000.00 Olympia Ice Bear Electric ice resurfacer. The new electric ice resurfacer will be used in the Strathmore Family Centre.

APPROACH

The new electric ice resurfacer will replace an older Zamboni that had reached the end of its service life. The new electric unit will have a lifetime of roughly 5000 hours or 8-10 years.

RESULTS

The new Olympia ice resurfacer boasts several benefits for Town staff, residents, and Family Centre users. The new model will have lower maintenance costs, is quieter to operate and does not emit any GHG emissions which reduce air quality for Centre users. The new model is another step forward towards meeting the Town’s environmental stewardship goals.

“Strathmore’s recreation facilities are very important to our residents, and this new electric ice resurfacer means better air quality for all our users. This is another step toward meeting Council’s strategic goal of environmental stewardship.”

Pat Fule – Mayor of the Town of Strathmore

“This Olympia is a very good investment for the Town. We expect lower maintenance costs for the unit and a 5,000-hour lifespan – about 8-10 years. It’s quieter to operate as well, so a better experience for the driver as well.”

Craig Dilts – Family Centre Arena Manager
