Overview

The MD of Taber received a rebate to offset a portion of the cost of the purchase and installation of 105 high-efficiency LED light fixtures through our Community Energy Conservation (CEC) program. The new LEDs were installed in the MD’s administration building, located in the Town of Taber. The new high efficiency lights will reduce electricity consumption, lower monthly utility bills, and improve lighting quality throughout the building. With the new lights, the MD can expect to save approximately $2,500 each year.

Approach

The MD partnered with the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre to upgrade the lighting in the admin building, with the intent to replace outdated and costly fixtures with high-efficiency LED fixtures. The retrofit will improve lighting levels, quality, and the overall comfort for MD staff and visitors.

Results

The new LED lighting system will reduce electricity consumption in the building by 19,000 kWh annually thanks to their improved energy efficiency. Furthermore, the retrofit will reduce the MD’s environmental footprint by roughly 9,42 tonnes of CO2 per year—equivalent to 128 tonnes over the lifespan of the fixtures, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable municipality.

“This project reflects the MD’s ongoing commitment to efficient operations and good stewardship of public funds. We’re pleased to implement practical upgrades that deliver long-term value to our ratepayers.”
