OVERVIEW
As part of the Action Centre’s Recreation Energy Conservation Program, the Town of Beaverlodge completed an LED lighting retrofit throughout the Beaverlodge Recreation Centre.
The Recreation Centre has only one building which is used for housing mechanical equipment and change rooms, as well as an indoor lap pool, a leisure pool and a hot tub. Used all year around as an entertainment/public assembly building, the Centre covers an area totalling 15,000 ft2.
The project was commissioned in September 2022.
APPROACH
The lighting retrofit project included the replacement of 176 T12s, HPS and incandescent fixtures with 173 LED low bays, troffers, and wall pack fixtures. The new LED lamps will provide higher lumen levels at a much lower wattage, thereby reducing the electricity consumption of lighting equipment under the system boundary.
RESULTS
The lighting retrofit resulted in a reduction of 11 tCO2/year and an annual energy cost saving of $3,080.99/year thus decreasing electricity costs. There is a 41% GHG reduction from the existing system and a 1% reduction facility-wide from the baseline.
“Through the Recreation Energy Conservation Program and the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre we were able to improve efficiency and increase the energy conservation of our facility and the new lighting looks fantastic! The time and effort spent will continue to benefit our community into the future.”
