Overview
The Town of Devon took part in the Community Energy Conservation (CEC) program and received a rebate to help fund the purchase and installation of 162 high-efficiency LED light fixtures. These new LEDs were installed in the Devon Community Centre, where they will reduce electricity consumption, lower annual operating costs, and improve lighting quality throughout the building. With this upgrade, the Town expects to save approximately 10,659 kWh of electricity each year.
Approach
The lighting retrofit project included the replacement of 162 T8 and CFL fixtures with 162 LED equivalents. The new LED fixtures will provide higher lumen levels at a much lower wattage, thereby reducing the electricity consumption of lighting equipment.
Results
The new LED lighting system will save the Town approximately $1,700 annually thanks to its improved energy efficiency. Additionally, the upgrade will reduce the Town’s carbon footprint by approximately 5.25 tonnes of CO2 per year. The project reduces GHG emissions from the previous system by 72% and facility-wide emissions by 8.6%.
“These upgrades are a great example of how we can reduce costs and emissions while improving our community spaces. We’re grateful for the support from MCCAC in making these projects possible.”
Jeff Craddock, Mayor
“This project shows that meaningful climate action doesn’t have to be complicated or costly. With just a small investment, communities can build a better future.”
Trina Innes, Executive Director, MCCAC
