The County of St. Paul completed an extensive retrofit of their Public Workshop in 2014. It included a complete overhaul of the building’s mechanical systems, a lighting retrofit, and replacement of all exterior overhead doors.

Mechanical upgrades included the replacement of: two 65% efficiency atmospheric combustion boilers with forced combustion modulating boilers (82%); new boiler pumps with variable frequency drives; a 55% efficiency hot water heater with a 82% efficiency condensing unit; and seven atmospheric combustion furances (55%) with direct-fired make-up air units. In addition, T12 lighting fixtures were converted to T5 fixtures, and 10 R6 insulated overhead doors were replaced with new R16 doors.

The project will save the County $19,799 in operating costs, 2,629 GJ of energy, and 162 tonnes of emissions annually.
