Overview
The Town of Grimshaw participated in the Community Energy Conservation (CEC) program and received a rebate to support the purchase and installation of 301 high-efficiency LED light fixtures. These LEDs were installed throughout the Mile Zero Regional Multiplex, resulting in significantly reduced electricity consumption, lower annual operating costs, and enhanced lighting quality across the facility. This upgrade is projected to save the Town approximately $26,000 each year.
Approach
The Town partnered with MCCAC to upgrade the lighting in the Multiplex, aiming to replace outdated and costly fixtures with high-efficiency LED lighting. This significant lighting upgrade will enhance the experience for visitors and staff, reduce energy consumption, and lower operating costs for the Town.
Results
The new LED lighting system will reduce electricity consumption by roughly 164,000 kWh annually due to their higher operating efficiency. The new lights were installed in the Northern Air Walking Track, Les Shaw Fitness Centre, all three courts in the field house, and above the bleacher seating and ice surface in the arena. Additionally, the upgrade will reduce the Town’s carbon footprint by roughly 85.72 tonnes of CO2 per year—equivalent to 710 tonnes over the lifespan of the fixtures, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable community.
“These upgrades are a meaningful investment in our infrastructure and our community. Not only are we improving the experience for visitors and staff, but we’re also reducing our environmental footprint and lowering operational costs.”
