Overview

The Town of Coaldale took part in the Community Energy Conservation (CEC) program and received a rebate to help fund the purchase and installation of 229 high-efficiency LED light fixtures. These new LEDs were installed in the Town’s public library, leading to reduced electricity consumption, lower annual operating costs, and improved lighting quality throughout the library. With this upgrade, the Town expects to save approximately 24,710 kWh of electricity each year.

Approach

The Town partnered with MCCAC to upgrade the lighting in the library, aiming to replace outdated and inefficient fixtures with high-efficiency LED lighting. This improvement will create a more comfortable and productive environment for library users and staff, while also reducing energy consumption and lowering operating costs for the Town.

Results

The new LED lighting system will save the Town approximately $4,700 annually thanks to its improved energy efficiency. Additionally, the upgrade will reduce the Town’s carbon footprint by roughly 12.13 tonnes of CO2 per year—equivalent to 160 tonnes over the lifespan of the fixtures, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable community.

“We are thrilled to receive this grant, which will allow us to make an impactful improvement to our library. These upgrades will create a brighter, more energy-efficient space for our community while also lowering our operational costs. It’s a win-win for both the environment and our residents.”
