OVERVIEW
Over 2022, the Town of Coalhurst completed construction of their new solar PV installation, a 64.08 kW ground mount solar PV system at the Sewage Lift Station. The system is made up of 144 solar modules and is conservatively estimated to generate 94,005 kWh per year. The system allows the Town of Coalhurst to produce renewable energy, lower its carbon footprint, and lead by example in the community. The system received a rebate through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s Alberta Municipal Solar Program for $62,604.60.
APPROACH
The project was operational in 2022 and was constructed by miEnergy for $155,282.00. Including the first-time applicant bonus, roughly 40% of the total cost was covered by the Alberta Municipal Solar Program (AMSP). The system, which includes 144 solar panels and one inverter, is expected to operate for more than 25 years.
RESULTS
The system will offset about 53.58 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually, the equivalent of removing 10 passenger internal combustion engine vehicles driven for a year off the road.
“The Town of Coalhurst is pleased to have been able to complete this small step towards a green and renewable energy solution in a cost-effective way with funding under the MCCAC program”
Mayor Lyndsay Montina
