Overview
As part of the Action Centre’s Recreation Energy Conservation Program, the Town of Beaverlodge completed an LED lighting retrofit throughout the Beaverlodge Arena.
The Arena built in 1974 is the winter focal point of the town of Beaverlodge. The facility consists of an artificial ice pad (185′ x 80′), 6 dressing rooms, a lobby, concession, and seating for 500 spectators with a total building area of 38,000 ft2.
The project was commissioned in September 2022.
Approach
The lighting retrofit project included the replacement of 142 T12s, T8s, and metal halide fixtures with 149 LED troffers, highbays, and wallpacks. The new LED lamps will provide higher lumen levels at a much lower wattage, thereby reducing the electricity consumption of lighting equipment under the system boundary.
Results
The lighting retrofit resulted in a reduction of 24 tCO2/year and an annual energy cost saving of $6,746.50/year thus decreasing electricity costs. There is a 68% GHG reduction from the existing system and a 7% reduction facility-wide from the baseline.
” Through the Recreation Energy Conservation Program and the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre we were able to improve efficiency and increase the energy conservation of our Arena. Also, the new lighting looks great! The time and effort spent will continue to benefit our community for many years.”
