OVERVIEW
As part of the Action Centre’s Recreation Energy Conservation Program, the Town of Pincher Creek completed an LED lighting retrofit throughout the Multi-Purpose Facility.
The 24,696 ft² multi-use facility offers something for everyone all under one roof, including an aquatic centre, library, conference and meeting rooms, soccer field, and numerous outdoor recreational facilities.
The project was commissioned in August 2021.
APPROACH
The Multi-Purpose Facility lighting retrofit project included the replacement of T8s and T12s (185 in total) to 151 new LED troffer fixtures. The LED lamps will provide higher lumen levels at a much lower wattage, thereby reducing the electricity consumption of lighting equipment under the system boundary.
RESULTS
The lighting retrofit resulted in a reduction of 11 tCO2/year and an annual energy cost saving of $2,586.00 thus decreasing electricity costs. There is 40% GHG reduction from the existing system and 1% reduction facility-wide from the baseline.
“The LED lighting upgrade funded through the MCCAC has allowed us to decrease our overall operating costs with energy savings so we can put money towards other areas that need it. The LEDs are also expected to fail at lower rate which means less time and money spent maintaining, especially with the high bay pool area lights. The Town of Pincher Creek is excited to pursue more energy saving opportunities like this.”
