Overview

The Town of Hanna took part in the Community Energy Conservation (CEC) program and received a rebate to help fund the purchase and installation of 217 high-efficiency LED troffers to replace 217 T8 fluorescent fixtures. These new LEDs were installed in the Hanna Town Office, leading to reduced electricity consumption, lower annual operating costs, and improved lighting quality throughout the building. With this upgrade, the Town expects to save approximately 14,444 kWh of electricity each year.

Approach

The Town partnered with MCCAC to upgrade the lighting in the Town Office, aiming to replace outdated and inefficient fixtures with high-efficiency LED lighting. This improvement will create a more comfortable and productive environment for staff while reducing energy consumption and lowering operating costs for the Town.

Results

The new LED lighting system will save the Town approximately $3,755 annually thanks to its improved energy efficiency. Additionally, the upgrade will reduce the Town’s carbon footprint by roughly 7 tonnes of CO2 per year—equivalent to 131 tonnes over the lifespan of the fixtures, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable community.

From an operational standpoint, the transition to LED lighting will make a noticeable difference. Not only will we lower our energy consumption, but we’ll also benefit from reduced maintenance requirements. It’s a win-win for our team and our community.

Kevin Olsen, Community Services Facilities Manager

This project just makes good sense. By upgrading to LED lighting, we’re saving money on our power bills and making our buildings more comfortable and efficient. It’s a practical improvement that benefits everyone who works in or visits these spaces.”
