Alberta is home to leaders and innovators, each demonstrating a unique approach to environmental stewardship.

For almost thirty years, the Alberta Emerald Foundation has showcased Alberta’s environmental achievements across all sectors with these prestigious awards. For the past 29 years, the Emerald Awards have recognized and celebrated the outstanding environmental achievements of large and small businesses, individuals, not-for-profit associations, community groups, youth, and governments.

They are Alberta’s environmental good-news storytellers.

By showcasing our province’s leaders who raise the bar in addressing local, regional, and global environmental & climate issues, a standard of excellence is set that inspires and empowers others in their own practices.

Through their actions of showcasing, inspiring, and empowering environmental leadership and awareness, they support our community to meet the challenges ahead and contribute to a more sustainable future for all.

All are welcome to submit a nomination, permitting their work is either Alberta-based and/or benefits Albertans.

The Action Centre was selected as the recipient in the category of Community Group or Not-For-Profit for a Large Organization.

Launched in 2009, the Action Centre has over a decade of experience offering funding, technical assistance, and education to help municipalities and community-related organizations enhance energy resilience, reduce costs, and move towards a low-carbon future.

The Action Centre’s program impacts include over 550 energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, with participation from 110 Alberta municipalities.

Over 27,000 solar PV modules have been installed on community facilities, representing almost 10 MW of installed generation capacity. Program participants are receiving over $2.5 million in energy savings each year.
