The Municipal Climate Change Action Centre is excited to welcome six municipalities into the third cohort of the Roving Energy Manager (REM) Program. This cohort reflects the growing interest among small and rural communities in strengthening their energy management practices and finding practical ways to reduce operating costs and emissions.
The REM Program provides participating municipalities with dedicated technical capacity through MCCAC staff. With this support, communities gain access to expert guidance to help them understand their energy use, identify opportunities for savings, and begin implementing improvements that benefit both their operations and long‑term sustainability goals.
The following municipalities have been selected to participate in the 2026–2027 cohort:
- Village of Rockyford
- Village of Hussar
- Village of Hines Creek
- Town of Bow Island
- Town of High Prairie
- Town of Lamont

Administration from each participating municipality will receive dedicated support for energy management services, provided by the MCCAC team, to develop a proactive approach to energy management and implement cost-saving measures. Alongside technical services, the program emphasizes building internal capacity, ensuring municipal staff gain the knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to carry energy management efforts forward.
Since its inception, the REM Program has proven to be a valuable entry point for smaller municipalities wanting to take their first steps into organized energy management. Past participants have advanced cost‑saving retrofits, improved operational awareness of energy use, and strengthened their readiness for future climate and infrastructure initiatives.
This year’s cohort brings together communities with unique needs, but all share a commitment to improving how energy is managed in their facilities. MCCAC looks forward to supporting each municipality as they begin this work and to celebrating the outcomes that emerge from their efforts.
