OVERVIEW
As part of the Action Centre’s Recreation Energy Conservation Program, the Town of St. Paul completed an LED lighting retrofit throughout the Clancy Richard Arena. The 48,440 square foot arena includes a skating rink, change rooms, concession area, and lobby. The project was commissioned in September 2021.
APPROACH
The Arena lighting retrofit project included the replacement of T5s and T8s (270 in total), with 270 new LED highbays, troffers, and linear fixtures. The LED lamps will provide higher lumen levels at a much lower wattage, thereby reducing the electricity consumption of lighting equipment under the system boundary.
RESULTS
The lighting retrofit resulted in a reduction of 20 tCO2/year and an annual energy cost savings of $2,541.88. There is a 38% GHG reduction from the existing system and an 8% reduction facility-wide from the baseline.
“The Town of St. Paul is pleased to be a recipient of the Recreation Energy Conservation Program grant through MCCAC and is excited to upgrade the Clancy Richard Arena. This project represents one of the ways that the Town of St. Paul is doing to reduce energy consumption and operating costs. The Town of St. Paul is excited to pursue more energy-saving opportunities like this.”
