Spruce Grove Climate Change Resilience Action Plan

Action plan to better prepare for and manage potential impacts to infrastructure and services, property, the local economy, environment, and health and lifestyles of citizens anticipated to result from climate change over the next several decades.

Scope

Spatial scope – direct impacts within the geographic boundaries of the City of Spruce Grove.

Operational scope – The assessment of risks and opportunities considers potential community-wide impacts, which includes impacts to municipal infrastructure, property and services, as well as impacts to private property, the local economy, the health and lifestyle of residents and the natural environment.

4 priority risks requiring immediate action – Water supply shortage, urban flooding, freezing rain, thunderstorms.

Opportunities

6 climate related opportunities – Improved recreation in spring, Increased winter recreation opportunities, Reduced heating costs, Increased construction season, Reduced winter road maintenance, Longer growing season.
