OVERVIEW

The Town of Didsbury recently purchased a new electric Zamboni through the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities Program. The $50,000 rebate through the EVM Program made this a fiscally responsible decision.

This project was funded by the Government of Alberta.

APPROACH

The Town purchased the new electric Zamboni to replace their aging propane powered Zamboni. The 14-year-old model has served the community well, but the increased repair and maintenance costs made making the switch to electric more appealing.

RESULTS

The new electric Zamboni boasts several advantages compared to the 14-year-old propane model it is replacing. The Town can expect lower annual maintenance and fuel costs and a safer air-quality inside the Memorial Complex. The Town will also be doing its part to reduce GHG emissions.

This is great news for our community, the new electric Zamboni will reduce emissions within the building, creating a safer air-quality environment for arena users as well as staff. Additionally, yearly savings as a result of moving from propane to electric are estimated to be more than $3000. This is a fiscally responsible purchase, especially given the Government of Alberta grant.”
