The Falher Regional Recreation Complex is home to an ice hockey rink, curling rink, and fitness centre. The complex underwent an energy efficiency retrofit in 2013, with upgrades made to its mechanical systems and lighting.
As part of the project, the two original gas-fired forced-air furnaces at 60% efficiency were replaced with atmospheric condensing models (94%). Additionally, a programmable thermostat was installed to match heating and cooling to occupant usage patterns. The domestic hot water heaters were also upgraded, making the switch from 50% to 88% efficiency. The lighting retrofit included replacing T12 fluorescent tubes with T8s, incandescent lighting with CFLS, and incandescent exit sign bulbs with LEDs. These improvements are expected to save the Town $6,221, 503 GJ of energy, and 46 tonnes of greenhouse gases annually.
