As part of the MCCAC’s Recreation Energy Conservation (REC) program, the Village of Donnelly completed a lighting retrofit of the Guy-Donnelly Sportex updating their lighting fixtures in the facility to LED fixtures. The project was completed in December, 2020.
The Guy-Donnelly Sportex lighting retrofit project involves the replacement of existing induction lamp fixtures with their equivalent LED lamp technology. The LED lamps will provide similar lumen levels at much lower wattage, thereby reducing electricity consumption of lighting equipment under the system boundary.
The retrofit involved the replacement of 101 existing lighting fixtures with equivalent LED fixtures/lamps. By doing so, this retrofit is estimated to save 18 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year; a estimated 21% reduction of the facility’s carbon footprint and a 52% reduction in electricity consumption. Already, members and users of the facility are noticing how much brighter the arena has become as a result of the retrofit.
52% reduction in facility electricity consumption
Here’s what Myrna Lanctot, Mayor of the Village of Donnelly, said about participating in the Recreation Energy Conservation Program:
“These new lights are fabulous. They brighten the building and reduce the energy required to do so. The energy reduction relates to future cost savings for operating. The Sportex committee and Climate Change Coordinator Emily Plihal deserve a pat on the back for their hard work on achieving this project.”Myrna Lanctot, Mayor, Village of Donnelly
