OVERVIEW

As part of the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities program the Town of Okotoks purchased, and received funding to cover 30% of the cost, of a new electric Greenworks Law Mower. This 60” deck electric mower will help reduce the Town’s GHG annual emissions and is a key step in helping reach the Town’s goal of Carbon-Zero by 2050.

APPROACH

The Town added the mower to its parks fleet in the 2022 mowing season, and looks forward to the reduced fuel costs, maintenance costs and disruptive noise compared to the previous model.

RESULTS

The electric Greenworks Mower will help emit approximately 80% less GHG emissions compared to their current John Deere zero-turn mower, which will lower the annual GHG emission of the Town by 6.53 tCO2e/year. The mower will also significantly reduce annual fuel costs, maintenance costs, and disruptive noise for operators and Town residents.

“The grant will refund 30% of the pre-tax purchase price, which makes it comparable in price to a gas-powered mower. The lawn mower is so much quieter to operate than a gas mower and is more environmentally-friendly, which aligns with our sustainable corporate initiatives.”
