OVERVIEW

As part of the Action Centre’s Electric Vehicles for Municipalities (EVM) Program, the Town of Raymond purchased a new Kia Niro plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The Kia Niro will be used for employee transportation around the Town or to other meetings in the region and will reduce the business use of personal staff vehicles and limit mileage claims.

This project was completed in August 2022.

APPROACH

The Town is leasing the Kia Niro PHEV for four years. The 42 kilometer all-electric range significantly reduces fuel consumption and costs for shorter trips and helps the Town achieve their energy efficiency goals.

RESULTS

By switching to a plug-in hybrid, the Town will be reducing operational emissions, leading to a reduction in environmental impact, as well as significantly lower fuel and maintenance costs. This plug-in hybrid is expected to reduce overall emissions by 55 per cent compared to the average SUV and cut annual fuel and maintenance costs by over $1,260.

“We appreciate the MCCAC’s contribution to this project and to helping the Town reduce costs in our operations, but reduce fuel consumption and emissions. This Kia will be used by council and staff for travel use.”
