APPROACH
This project aims to internally develop an Electric Vehicle Strategy and Charging Stations for the city. The strategy will serve as a roadmap for the gradual electrification of the City’s fleet through regular vehicle lifecycle replacements or grant-funded initiatives. The project’s core objective is to establish an Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network within the city, seamlessly integrating with provincial charging networks and positioning Spruce Grove prominently in the EV landscape. This network is expected to attract EV drivers to the city, enhance accessibility for residents, and support the future EV fleet of the city. The implementation of EV chargers underscores the community’s commitment to renewable energy and greenhouse gas reduction efforts.
This could not have happened without the significant grant funding we received from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre, and we would like to thank them for this contribution to our city as we work to conserve, protect, and enhance the environment for our residents – both now and in the future. This is going to be an exciting addition to our city and aligns with one of the themes in Council’s Strategic Plan, which is Environmental Sustainability for our community.
Mayor Jeff Acker
It’s encouraging to see us maximizing the potential for grants and I don’t think this is the end as far as grants go. I think we are going to be seeing more from the provincial and federal governments. I’m looking forward to future grants and future charger infrastructure.
