Overview

As part of the Action Centre’s Recreation Energy Conservation Program, the Town of Bassano completed an LED lighting retrofit throughout the Bassano and District Centennial Arena.

Built in 1988 the Recreation Complex comprises a curling rink, bowling alley, and golf course clubhouse. The complex saw a couple of renovations to the interior and exterior of the building over the past few decades.

The project was commissioned in January 2023.

Approach

The lighting retrofit project included the replacement of 183 T8s, fluorescent, HPS, CFL, and metal halide fixtures with 235 LED highbays, troffers and wall pack lamps. The new LED lamps will provide higher lumen levels at a much lower wattage, thereby reducing the electricity consumption of lighting equipment under the system boundary.

Results

The lighting retrofit resulted in a reduction of 6 tCO2/year and an annual energy cost saving of $1,478.47/year thus decreasing electricity costs. There is a 40% GHG reduction from the existing system and a 4% reduction facility-wide from the baseline.

As a part of Bassano’s Recreation and Leisure Master plan, our goal is to reduce facility operating costs for the Town and the volunteer boards managing our facilities. The MCCAC Recreation Energy Conservation Grant has helped the Town achieve this goal.
