OVERVIEW
As part of the Action Centre’s Recreation Energy Conservation Program, the Town of Canmore completed an LED lighting retrofit throughout Elevation Place.
Located in downtown Canmore Elevation Place is a 77,000 ft2 indoor hub for Canmore’s community. The facility offers a large pool, climbing gym, fitness gym, and numerous daily drop-in core classes.
The project was commissioned in September 2021.
APPROACH
The Elevation Place lighting retrofit project included the replacement of induction pendant fixtures and metal halide projection tube lights (59 in total), with 40 new LED highbays and tube lights. The LED lamps will provide higher lumen levels at a much lower wattage, thereby reducing the electricity consumption of lighting equipment under the system boundary.
RESULTS
The lighting retrofit resulted in a reduction of 47 tCO2/year and an annual energy cost savings of $7,546.03. There is a 60% GHG reduction from the existing system and a 3% reduction facility-wide from the baseline.
“The Town is appreciative of the funding from both the MCCAC and Farm Credit Canada’s AgriSpirit Fund that allowed us the opportunity to upgrade our facilities.”
“In 2020, the Town of Canmore replaced the lighting fixtures in the swimming pool area at Elevation Place with LED fixtures. This lighting upgrade will allow the Town of Canmore to save energy and reduce the Towns overall Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. This is another important step towards the Town’s corporate goal of reducing GHG emissions by 50 percent by 2030“
