$14,000.00MCCAC Funding

As part of the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities program the Town of Hinton purchased a new fully electric Ford E-Transit van. The Town received a $14,000 grant from the MCCAC to help offset the purchase price. The van has approximately a 200-kilometer full electric range.

Due the completion of an EV feasibility study, also funded by the MCCAC, it was determined that replacing a current gasoline powered van with an electric model would be feasible and would help reduce annual costs. With the success of securing the $14,000 rebate through the MCCAC, the Town Council directed Administration to purchase the EV.  The Town purchased the van from Van Griffith’s Ford and received it months earlier than anticipated.

The new fully electric van has several advantages compared to a traditional gasoline powered van.

  1. Reduced fuel costs. EVs are more efficient than ICE vehicles and cost less to “fill up” compared to gasoline powered vehicles.
  1. Reduced maintenance costs. EVs have fewer moving parts and utilize regenerative breaking. Both make operating an EV cheaper than a traditional ICE vehicle.
  1. No direct GHG emissions are produced during operation. EVs do not produce any GHGs during operation, which make them more environmentally friendly.

Embracing electric vehicles aligns with our mission of capturing sustainable opportunities and advances Hinton towards a cleaner, greener future. This decision reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible asset management.
