OVERVIEW

As part of the Electric Vehicle Charging Program (EVCP), the Town of Legal now has three new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, at three different locations within the Town.

  • Location One: Legal Arena
  • One level 2 charging station – For public use
  • Location Two – Town Office
  • One level 2 charging station – For public use
  • Location Three – Legal Municipal Shop
  • One level 2 charging station – For private use

Each of the three stations has one charging plug and can output up to 11.5 kW of power. This means that a typical EV can charge from near empty to 100% in 8-10 hours. The chargers at the Town arena and office are open for public use.

The Town received $29,854.00 through the EVCP project, which covered the entire cost of the project including equipment and the installation.

This project was funded by the Government of Alberta and Natural Resources Canada.

APPROACH

The addition of the three EV charging stations is great step for the Town of Legal and shows the Town’s commitment to building and promoting a more sustainable future. Residents of the Town and visitors now have two excellent choices to charger their EVs/PHEVs. The Town hopes that the chargers will attract travelers to stop within the Town, charge, and explore the community and local businesses.

As Town of Legal works to be a community that embraces new, innovative and, efficient technologies, we appreciate the support of the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) to allow projects such as our new EV Chargers to become a reality. The opportunity to purchase and install EV Charging Stations in the Town of Legal would not have been possible without the grant funding provided by MCCAC. Having these stations available to our visitors promotes tourism, helps other levels of Government in their environmental goals and ensures Legal’s place in a more sustainable future.
