OVERVIEW
Over 2022, the Town of Drayton Valley completed construction of their new solar PV installation, a 304.32 kW solar PV system on the roof of the Aquatic Centre. The system is made up of 634 solar modules and is conservatively estimated to generate 257,888 kWh per year. The system allows the Town of Drayton Valley to produce renewable energy, lower their carbon footprint, and lead by example in the community. The system received a rebate through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s Alberta Municipal Solar Program for $182,592.00.
APPROACH
Focusing on the energy optimization the facility has been designed to reduce the operational costs. The power generated onsite will be used by the facility and excess will go to the grid. The system, which includes 634 solar panels and 4 inverters, is expected to operate for more than 30 years.
RESULTS
The system will offset about 147 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually, equivalent of removing 29 passenger internal combustion engine vehicles driven for a year off the road.
