OVERVIEW

As part of the MCCAC’s Electric Vehicle Charging Program (EVCP), the Summer Village of Seba Beach installed electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the following facility for public use. These are the first EV charging stations to be installed in Seba Beach.

  • Two Hypercharge JuiceBar 9.6 kW level 2 stations with two plugs each at Village Municipal Building

The project was completed in March 2023 and funded through the MCCAC’s Electric Vehicle Charging Program with funding provided by the Government of Alberta and Natural Resources Canada.

APPROACH

Seba Beach, located west of Edmonton, is a small, tight-knit village with a large cabin-going community in the summertime. While their cars are charging, visitors can enjoy multiple activities the village has to offer, including visiting the Heritage Museum or library, taking a stroll on the pier, playing a game of miniature golf, enjoying one of the many restaurants, and of course, enjoying the lake and beach. We anticipate that these chargers will support visitors from all over Alberta.

The installation of these chargers will support community members and tourists who own or are considering the purchase of, electric vehicles (EVs). Switching to EVs is an important part of the movement toward fighting climate change and supporting Alberta and Canada’s emissions reduction goals. Installing the necessary infrastructure to support electric vehicle use contributes towards climate goals and ensures that community members and visitors have a reliable energy source to charge their vehicles. This is particularly important in rural areas, which do not always have the same level of accessibility as urban areas, and further for tourist destinations such as Seba Beach to have the infrastructure to support and attract visitors.

With the increase of electric vehicles being driven in Canada, the Summer Village of Seba Beach is thrilled to be one of the first communities in the area to offer electric vehicle charging stations for residents and visitors.
