Overview
The Town of Devon took part in the Community Energy Conservation (CEC) program and received a rebate to help fund the purchase and installation of 84 high-efficiency LED light fixtures. These new LEDs were installed in the Devon Fire Hall, leading to reduced electricity consumption, lower annual operating costs, and improved lighting quality throughout the building. With this upgrade, the Town expects to save approximately 10,555 kWh of electricity each year.
Approach
The Town partnered with MCCAC to upgrade the lighting in the Fire Hall. Replacing outdated and inefficient fixtures with high-efficiency LED lighting will create a more comfortable and productive environment for staff, while also reducing energy consumption and lowering operating costs for the Town.
Results
The new LED lighting system will save the Town approximately $1,900 annually thanks to its improved energy efficiency. Additionally, the upgrade will reduce the Town’s carbon footprint by roughly 6 tonnes of CO2 per year—equivalent to 80.6 tonnes over the lifespan of the fixtures, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable community.
“These upgrades are a great example of how we can reduce costs and emissions while improving our community spaces. We’re grateful for the support from MCCAC in making these projects possible.”
Jeff Craddock, Mayor
“This project shows that meaningful climate action doesn’t have to be complicated or costly. With just a small investment, communities can build a better future.”
Trina Innes, Executive Director, MCCAC
