Roving Energy Manager – Town of Onoway

Overview

The Town of Onoway participated in the Roving Energy Manager (REM) Program to better understand municipal energy consumption, identify energy-saving opportunities, and build the knowledge needed to support future energy management initiatives.

Through the program, Town staff worked with the MCCAC team to develop an energy inventory, benchmark facility energy use, participate in training activities, and complete a detailed walkthrough of the Town’s main office building.

The Town also accessed $9,218 in implementation funding to support energy-saving improvements identified through the program.

This project was funded through the Roving Energy Manager Program. The program is administered by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre and funded by the Government of Alberta.

Results

Through the REM Program, Onoway accessed $9,218 in implementation funding. With this, they were able to complete a lighting retrofit at the Administration Building and Fire Hall. Some additional benefits of the program include:

• completing a baseline assessment to better understand existing energy management practices, opportunities, and priorities within the municipality.

• developing an inventory of energy-consuming assets and establishing a foundation for future energy management planning.

• collecting and analyzing utility data to create a baseline understanding of energy consumption and costs.

• participated in training sessions focused on energy management fundamentals, energy planning, financing, and implementation opportunities.

• completing a facility walkthrough of the Town’s main office building to identify low-cost, no-cost, and capital energy-efficiency opportunities.

“Through this Grant they were able to provide us with an energy audit and advise us on the most impactful energy savings in Town-owned buildings. They recommended converting to LED lighting and introducing lighting sensors where applicable.

We are pleased to note that the Administration Building and Fire Hall has converted to LED lighting and sensors after receiving this grant, which will aid us in longer term energy savings.”
