Overview
In 2026, the County of Warner No. 5 completed a roof-mounted solar photovoltaic system at the County of Warner Public Works Shop through the Municipal Electricity Generation Program. Supported by a $112,907.40 incentive toward the $281,198 project cost, the installation will generate clean electricity on site, offset power used at the operations yard, and improve long-term energy cost stability.
Approach
D-Com installed 234 solar modules on the Public Works Shop roof, providing 142.74 kW of total DC capacity. The system yield is expected to produce 1,140 kWh AC per kWDC and has an expected useful life of 25 years. By using the existing roof area, the County added local generation to an active municipal facility without requiring additional land.
Results
The solar PV system is expected to generate 162,793 kWh of electricity and save approximately $34,186.53 in electricity costs each year. It is projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 79.88 tonnes of CO2e annually—about a 55% facility-wide reduction. The incentive improves the estimated simple payback from 8.23 years to 5.76 years. Over its expected life, the project is forecast to avoid 1,530.43 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. The system helps the County manage operating costs, reduce exposure to future electricity-price changes, and demonstrate efficient, forward-looking investment in municipal infrastructure.
