Overview

As part of the Action Centre’s Electric Vehicles for Municipalities (EVM) Program, the Mackenzie County purchased and received an $50,000.00 rebate to cover the cost of a new Olympia Millennium Model E Ice Resurfacer.  The new electric ice resurfacer will be used in the newly constructed additional ice rink located at the Northern Lights Recreation Centre in La Crete.

Approach

The new electric ice resurfacer is an addition to the facility to resurface the new ice surface. The new electric unit will have a lifetime of roughly 5,000 hours or 8-10 years.

Results

The new model will have lower maintenance costs, is quieter to operate, and does not emit any GHG emissions which improve the indoor air quality for users.

We appreciate the support from the MCCAC and the donations in support of the La Crete Recreation Society to allow for the purchase of the new electric ice resurfacer. Working together with so much support from our communities as we reduce energy costs and lower greenhouse gas emissions is very rewarding.
