Overview
As part of the MCCAC’s Electric Vehicle Charging Program (EVCP), the Town of Canmore installed electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the following facility for private use. These are the first EV charging stations to be installed in the Town.
- One Flo Dual CoRe+ 7.2 kW level 2 station with two plugs at Civic Centre
The project was completed in December 2022.
Approach
The Town of Canmore purchased two electric vehicles to replace two internal combustion engine fleet vehicles. These vehicles are used by municipal staff. Charging stations are required to support the use of these fleet vehicles. These are the first EVs for the municipal fleet. The chargers will be installed in parking spaces reserved for municipal fleet vehicles. The parking spaces are located in a public parking lot near Canmore’s Civic Centre which is located in the downtown area.
Canmore is a town in Alberta, Canada, located approximately 81 kilometres west of Calgary near the southeast boundary of Banff National Park. It is located in the Bow Valley within Alberta’s Rocky Mountains. Installing the necessary infrastructure to support electric vehicle use contributes towards climate goals and ensures that the municipal staff members have a reliable energy source to charge their vehicles.
We are grateful for the MCCAC’s significant contribution to the Town of Canmore’s new electric vehicles and chargers. Thanks to the MCCAC, we will be reducing fuel and maintenance costs in our fleet, contributing to cleaner local air quality, and moving towards the greenhouse gas emission reduction goals in our 2018 Climate Action Plan.
