Overview

As part of the MCCAC’s Electric Vehicle Charging Program (EVCP), the Village of Consort installed electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the following facilities for public use. These are the first EV charging stations to be installed in the Village.

  • One Tritium RTM 50 kW level 3 station with two plugs at Consort Sportex
  • Two Siemens 11.5 kW level 2 stations with one plug each at Village Office

The project was completed in April 2023.

Approach

Consort is central to many larger centers and the closest EV Charger to Consort was Stettler, Kindersley, Hanna, and Wainwright. Placing an EV Charger at the junction of Highways 41 and 12 just made sense to the Village Council. The addition of chargers to the community provides travellers with electric vehicles to come and check out Consort and the many services the Village provides while charging. The EV charger project would reinforce the community’s commitment to renewables and greenhouse gas reductions.

Located in East Central Alberta, Consort is a vibrant rural community with farming, ranching and large cattle operations. It is approximately 250 km southeast of Edmonton and 252 km northeast of Calgary.

“The addition of level 2 and level 3 electric chargers within Consort is another step to ensure that we are consistent with the changing times and that we remain a full-service municipality.

Michael Beier, Mayor of Consort
