OVERVIEW
In 2022, the Spruce Avenue Community League began work on reducing C02 emissions and energy consumption by installing a solar panel project on the roof of the Community League Hall. In March 2022 a total of 40 solar panels were installed and have now been connected to the grid (17 kW DC system size). This system will see an annual production of 16,490 kWh of energy and annual emissions reductions of 9 tCO2e.
APPROACH
The project formally kicked off in August 2021 by selecting a contractor for the design and construction of the project, and reached complete energization and close out by April 2022.
RESULTS
This 17 kW system, comprised of forty solar panels installed on the roof of the community league hall, will offset the hall’s electricity consumption 110% on a net annual basis, saving on electricity costs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. And because it ties back to the grid, the system supplies solar energy to the neighbourhood of Spruce Avenue!
The system will produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of 6 average homes, offsetting about 9 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually, equivalent to removing 3 internal combustion engine passenger vehicles driven for a year off the road.
