Overview
As part of the MCCAC’s Electric Vehicle Charging Program (EVCP), Diamond Valley (formerly Town of Black Diamond) installed electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the following facilities for public use. These charging stations will augment the Town’s current alternative energy portfolio within the community.
- One Hypercharge Terra 54 50 kW level 3 station with two plugs at Oilfields Regional Arena
- One Hypercharge JB 11.5 kW level 2 station with two plugs at Park and Ride facility
- Two Hypercharge JB 11.5 kW level 2 stations with two plugs each at Town Office
The project was completed in December 2022.
Approach
The chargers are anticipated to support community members who own or may be considering switching to electric vehicles, as well as visitors to the community. They have been installed with a user-pay model to support ongoing operations and maintenance costs.
Diamond Valley, located 35 minutes southwest of Calgary on the beautiful Cowboy Trail near Kananaskis Country, is a small sustainable community that boasts a wide range of services. While their cars are charging, visitors can stroll downtown to visit the local shops, enjoy a meal at their many wonderful eating establishments, visit medical facilities or take part in one of many recreational activities available. These chargers will support visitors from all over Alberta who may be passing through or making Diamond Valley their destination in the Foothills.
The opportunity for the Town of Black Diamond to have Electric vehicle charges would not have been possible without the funding from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre. Having these charging stations in Black Diamond takes us one step closer on our journey to become more sustainable. The charges also put us as a destination point for Electric Vehicle owners with locations at our municipal office, which is close to the downtown core, at our park & ride facility and Oilfields Regional Hockey Arena. We are located along the Cowboy Trail and part of the access to Kananaskis Country so whatever your reason for stopping we are always glad to see you!
