OVERVIEW

As part of the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities program the Town of Stony Plain purchased and received a $28,000.00 rebate to help cover the $99,074.00 cost for two new Kia Niro EVs. These are the first fully electric vehicles that the Town will own and operate.

This project was funded by the Government of Alberta.

APPROACH

The new Niro’s will replace two outdate combustion engine vehicles and is a great step forward in promoting sustainability and greener future.

RESULTS

The two new Niro’s boast several benefits compared to traditional combustion engine vehicles:

1.       Reduced fuel costs – EVs are more efficient which reduces fuel costs

2.       Reduced maintenance costs – EVs have less moving parts and require less maintenance

3.       Reduced greenhouse gas emissions – EVs do not produce any direct GHG emissions during operation

We are excited to incorporate our first two fully electric vehicles into our fleet. This move highlights Stony Plain’s municipal leadership and dedication to sustainability.

Mayor William Choy

We have integrated hybrid vehicles into our fleet before, but these are our first fully electric vehicles, we appreciate the opportunity to participate in the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities Program and to integrate innovative solutions for a greener, cleaner future for Stony Plain.”
