Overview
As a part of the Community Energy Conservation (CEC) Program, the Town of Devon completed a targeted energy retrofit at the GFL Twin Arena, replacing an aging domestic hot water (DHW) tank that was past its useful life. The arena is a high-use recreation facility with consistent demand for hot water to support showers, change rooms, and daily operations.
Approach
The Town partnered with MCCAC to upgrade the hot water tank in the GFL Twin Arena, aiming to replace outdated tank that was working at 70% efficiency with a 95% efficient condensing unit. This project was funded by the Government of Alberta.
Results
The installation of the new hot water tank resulted in a reduction of 5.33 tCO2/year and an energy cost savings of $709/year.
“This upgrade is a practical investment that helps reduce long-term operating costs while improving the efficiency our most heavily used recreation facility. Thank you to MCCAC for your support funding the replacement of our hot water heater at the arena. Projects like this allow us to be good stewards of both public dollars and the environment.”
