OVERVIEW
As part of the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities program the MD of Pincher Creek purchased a fully electric Ford Lightning. The MD received a $14,000 rebate through the EVM program to help offset the roughly $79,000 vehicle purchase price.
This project was funded by the Government of Alberta.
APPROACH
The Lightning was purchased as part of the MD’s annual fleet purchasing cycle. Based upon typical vehicle and fleet usage the MD is confident that the 350 kilometer all electric range will meet the MD’s needs. The MD estimates 6-year payback versus a gas-powered equivalent on a 15-year life span.
RESULTS
This MD expects to save roughly $1,100 per year on fuel costs compared to gas-powered equivalent. The truck will also have significantly lower maintenance costs and will reduce the MD’s annual GHG emissions.
We are extremely excited to be at the cutting edge of technology and working towards clean emissions,” said Emergency Management and Protective Services Manager Ken Morrison. “Municipal Enforcement work is well suited for implementing an electric vehicle, with patrol cars remaining within town limits, as it provides a perfect opportunity to ensure the vehicle’s charge is maintained.
